Welcome
to
Border
Llamas
Officially registered as Llama Breeders with the French Chamber of Agriculture & also registered with the with the
British Llama Society.
We
have signed and fully comply with the Code of Conduct for the sale of Camelids as set
out by the
British Llama Society (BLS).
Since moving
our llama breeding business from Wales to France
just over 2 ˝ years
ago we have successfully satisfied a wide range of client
requirements. These requirements range from providing field pets, companion
animals, start up breeding herds right through to sourcing, training and
delivering complete trekking herds for new trekking centres all over France and
the UK.
We have been
successfully breeding and training high quality Llamas and providing our
customers with advice and support for many years.
All of our customers love the extra dimension that owning Llamas has added to their
lives and we maintain contact to ensure that all is going well.
Whether
you wish to start breeding llamas, start up a llama trekking centre, have llamas as field companions for other
animals or to simply own llamas to help graze and manage your land, we can advise and assist you.
For those who wish to know more
about owning llamas or wish to start breeding
or trekking with llamas but have never owned llamas before, we offer a 3 Day
(Llama Breeding) or 5 day (Llama Trekking) llama trekking training course which is very much hands on and you get to
learn, practice and develop your skills using both trained and
untrained llamas.
If you
already own your own Llamas in France, we also provide a stud service with the
choice of our 3
proven stud males available. For those unable to deliver
their females to our farm we can collect them or we can sometimes transport the stud male to you. For
more information on stud services and fees please contact us.
If you would like to know more about
Llamas, their care and upkeep, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We
do not believe in applying any pressure to purchase on callers and we are quite
happy for farm visits so you can get to see the llamas close up (we do not
charge for farm visits).
Our aim is to provide you with
as much advice and assistance as possible in order that
you can make an informed decision as to whether keeping Llamas is the
right move for them and more importantly that they will be able to provide the
right conditions for the Llamas to continue to lead a healthy lifestyle should
they decide to become owners.
We can
personally deliver llamas to any part of France or arrange for delivery to any
location within the EU using fully qualified and licensed transporters who are
conversant with the requirements for the transportation of llamas. We can
also keep your llamas safe here at the farm until you are ready to move the
llamas to your new premises in France.
All
our adult Llamas are individually registered and micro-chipped and we have signed and
fully comply with the Code of Conduct for the sale of Camelids as set by the
British Llama Society (BLS).
We provide
a totally free 24 x 7 support and after care service for all our customers
regardless of location.
For UK customers we provide a
complete service and take care of all the paperwork and obtain the necessary
Export (French) and Import (UK) licenses, carry out all the required veterinary
checks including blood tests (TB & Brucellosis) and liaise directly with UK
State Veterinary Services and your chosen transporter (we can recommend suitable
licensed transporters) and also with the UK State Veterinary Services. We have
supplied a number of llamas to the UK and are fully conversant with and comply
with all the legal requirements to ensure that your llamas arrive in the UK
legally, in good health and on time.
Please
Note:
Llamas
are not difficult to care for or expensive to keep. However,
we will not sell a Llama to anyone unless we are absolutely certain
that the purchaser fully understands what is involved in keeping a Llama healthy
and that they have adequate facilities to maintain their quality of life.
It is also
important that if you do decide to purchase llamas here in France to ensure that
whichever breeder you purchase your llamas from is fully registered as a llama
breeder with the French Chamber of Agriculture and has a Siret Number
authorising them to conduct business legally.
A nice place to shelter, under the body of a Clydesdale colt foal.
This picture shows the natural guarding instinct displayed by llamas when a potential threat is detected. Single adult females to the front, young babies guarded closely by their mothers at the rear. Note the alert stance, body erect, ears forward and pointed towards the direction of the threat. The threat was simply a herd of cattle being let into an adjacent field but could just as easily have been a fox on the prowl. Their first instinct is to divert the threat away from the herd and if this fails then to mount an attack against the threat, which then can do with amazing speed and power. Llamas can display an amazing burst of speed when they want to.
