Llama Trekking in France

Llama Trekking in France is becoming an increasingly popular tourist activity and at the same time proving to be an extremely viable business opportunity  with new Trekking Centres opening in many Regions.

Llama trekking provides people of all ages with an ideal opportunity to experience a unique outdoor activity with a difference. The opportunity to explore the lovely countryside whilst enjoying an unforgettable experience of walking along with a fascinating and friendly walking companion for the day.  Many trekking centres offer a wide range of different walks across a range of terrains, from meandering meandering through woods and scenic countryside, skirting beautiful lakes with picnic stops, right through to trekking across steep mountain passes for the more experienced walkers, providing a very toughly enjoyable experience and one which all those on the llama trek will remember for a long long time.

For those considering starting their own trekking centre, the business opportunities are equally attractive.  More tourists visit France every year than any other country in Europe and many of these visitors are keen walkers or nature lovers looking for that "unique experience" or a "walk with a difference" therefore providing a ready made and lucrative market.  Llamas are quite happy trekking in the snow and rain and so they are not just a tourist activity restricted to the summer season. From a maintenance and management perspective, llamas are relatively cheap to keep and maintain in good health, they are quite hardy animals that do not need shearing and they do not require large tracks of land to provide good grazing. Compared to the cost overheads involved in keeping and maintaining horses, the costs of keeping a herd of trekking llamas are minimal.  It must be emphasised however, that that just like any animal llamas can and (although in our experience very rarely) do sometimes become ill or get injured and may require medical attention.  The other added attraction of keeping llamas in France, is that here they are classed as a domestic animal (the same as a cat or dog) and so you do not need to obtain special licences to keep them (But they must be microchipped).

Many Llama Trekking Centres have realised the enormous business potential and apart from just offering llama trekking they have diversified their portfolio of services by offering traditionally dressed llamas for attending weddings, village fetes, country shows and photo shoots.  The other potentially large and relatively untapped market is in the area of corporate management training days (team building and bonding).

If you are interested in llama trekking and starting up your own Trekking Centre (in France or other European countries), we are able to provide a complete package including:

* Identifying and bringing together your llama trekking herd (we always use at least 2 year old, gelded males with medium coats)

* Training the llamas for Trekking (see Trekking Training)

* Transporting the llamas to your location

* Providing you with in-depth hands-on training on delivery of your llamas (Note1)

* Advising on the best layout of your facilities

* Advising on suitable Pack systems

* Provision of full ongoing 24 x 7 advice and support.

Note 1: Some people prefer to come and stay with us during the last week of the llamas training and do their course with us here.

At La Ferme De L'arc-en-ciel we use only gentle non aggressive training methods which ensures that the llamas suffer the minimum amount of stress throughout the entire training process.

If you are interested in or considering starting up your own trekking centre and wish to discuss what is involved then please contact us.
